The Kiamichi River runs from Pine Mountain in eastern LeFlore County southwest to the Red River along the Texas border. It runs around 165 miles flowing through Hugo Lake near the town of Hugo. It is a great place for a scenic canoe or kayak trip through the beautiful Ouachita Mountains.

The Kiamichi begins between SH 88 and SH 63 just south of the Talimena Scenic Drive along the Oklahoma-Arkansas border, and then it flows under SH 63 to US Highway 259 near Big Cedar in the Ouachita National Forest.
