Black Mesa State Park is located in the panhandle of Oklahoma and is near Lake Carl Etling. Twenty-Three rare plant and eight rare animal species inhabit this area. Black Mesa gets its name from a layer of black lava from a now extinct volcano, that covered the mesa over 30 million years ago.
